hi, my name is brian and i attended barrowcliffe in about 1975-77ish, i lived in barrowclifffe road. my brother and sister both attended before going to graham school. the many lasting memorys i have of the school were getting your milk every day, the fire brigage coming to talk to us and picking lumps of ice of the school yard, building barracades and having snowball fights against the opposite teams. also remember the head master teaching me to tie my shoe laces. and a wierd one was everyone playing geenie geenie who's got the ball. happy times. bri

I attended Barrowcliff in the 80's! along with my younger brother Alastair. Loved every minute of it! I remember Mr Warrington was the head - strict & firm but very fair. Also remember Miss Chambers, Miss Hulme, Mr Robinson and the fantastic Mr Gyde was my teacher before i left, to go on to Scalby. Can still hear his voice! Very happy memories and made me what I am today :-)

Hey there! Jeez...it's been what, 8 years or so since I left Barrowcliff...scary stuff! I am now in my first year of University, at the Brighton Institute of Modern Music, where I am studying Contempory Vocals! I love it so much, I've wanted to sing all my life, and am now on my way to becoming the rock star that I want to be hahaha! I found all of my school reports the other day, and reading them back I was really struck by how encouraging all of my teachers were-Mrs. McCauley (my handwriting is now PERECT thanks to you!), Mrs Hepple, Mrs Jones (now Vyvyian) and the wonderful Mr Hodgson (I am still a keen artist, thanks to you!) Just wanted to say thank you, and good luck with the pending school merge!

I remember when they started to build the school I believe it was 1952. I attended the school until march of 54 when i left for Canada at age 10. I remember my towel # was 32. We all had our own towels back then. Long time ago.

Heya guys I was just browsing and I can't believe I found this site. It has been almost 7 years since I left barrowcliffe and I have to say, it was the best 11 years of my life! thank you to all the teachers many of which are still teaching there and i have to say, you should be proud of being one of the best nursery, infant and primary schools in the local barrowcliffe area and I am proud to say that I was taught there. All the teachers, helpers and governers should be proud of the achievement their pupils make and the difference they have on the local children who are taught there... thank you for a great education, great teachers and great school trips for myself and 10 other ex pupils!!!!!

Just reading through the comments, I left in 1993 like a few others. Got so many great memories of the place...the trips away, the teachers, the great friends I had. I remember in the leavers book I said I wanted to be a music journalist, and even the teachers let me somehow incorporate music into almost every lesson. Well I've been working in the music industry in London for the past 6 years, so you set me on the right track!
| Phil Livingstone | 24 April 2008 17:12:52 |
I left Barrowcliff in 1996. I have lots of great memories of my time there. Been Mrs McCauley's 'Little Treasure'. Going to East Barnby in the Snow! We made some wonderful snow models that year. Mum reminded me last week about some of the Easter Egg creations I made. I had fun in Miss Hulme's class, she has a wicked sense of humour. Oh... I did manage to do lots of work as well, I loved all the history topics. I made many great friends. Its nice to see what you all are up to as I now live in Stockholm in Sweden.(You can pay me later for this mum.)
| Kiel Richardson | 20 April 2008 02:06:51 |
Fantastic school! Great teachers! Many friendships made and greatly inspired me to become a teacher! In particular a student teacher when I was in Miss Hume's class called Mr Dixon! Mr Knowles, Mr Hodgson, Mr Mainprize, Mr Gyde, Mr Fairchild, Mrs Hepples and of course Mr Evan
| Arthur Towse - Chair of Governors | 11 April 2008 17:10:10 |
It is nearly two and a half years since this website was set up and it is gratifying to see that so former pupils take time out to look it up and to say so many good things about staff and the school. On behalf of all governors I say a big 'thank you' to Mrs Livingstone and her colleagues for both time and effort in ensuring the success of the 'site'. If governors ever wondered if their work was having any impact in the school the comments expressed by so many former pupils are a good indication that we haven't failed them or failing you.

Very much enjoyed my time at Barrowcliff, I feel it gave me an excellent foundation to go and make the most of Scalby when I left 1992.
| Jenny Glover | 05 January 2007 00:00:00 |
I left Barrowcliff in 1993 to go to Raincliffe School. It seems such a long time ago! I'm sure it has changed a lot since then, but I'm glad to see it's still going strong. Everyone I went to Barrowcliff with has nothing but good memories of the place, the trip to Robin Hoods Bay, Mrs Rigby's quizzes, Mr Mainprize's welly wanging contest on Sports Day, the list could be endless.
| Emma-Jane Smith-Howe | 14 December 2006 00:00:00 |
It was lovely to stumble across the website, and have a read about the school. I was a pupil there from 1982 -1990 (infants and primary). The school looks and sounds fabulous! It was great to read the other entries. Mr Warrington was the head, Mrs Chambers, Mrs Rigby, Mrs George, Mr Robinson and My Gyde were all there too.

I am very impressed not only by the quality of the website, congratulations to all concerned, especially Mrs Livingstone who, I believe has played a great part it getting the site up and running, but also by all those people past and present who have taken the opportunity to sign in and make such heart warming comments. Your contribution to the site is heartwarming to say the least. Barrowcliff is a great , caring school and your comments serve to endorse that. Long may it prosper.

Hi from an ex student !958 vintage now living in Queensland Australia. Very fond memories of living on Scalby Road opposite Lady Edith's Drive and attending Barrowcliff Junior School. Mr Smith was the Headmaster, Mrs Lowe Secretary, Miss Chambers Form Mistress, Miss Everington, Miss Wiseman, Mr Franklin and Mr Barker. The best thing about the school meals was the hidden threepenny bit in the Xmas pud. Enjoyed the site and good luck to you all.
